Learn to Play Guitar
You may think it is difficult to learn to play the guitar, but
it can be quite easy. With the right instruction and the right motivation,
anyone can learn to play. There are many 'learn at home' methods.
If you are willing to study, you may be the best teacher you'll
ever have.
Once you've chosen a guitar to play, it's time to get down to the
basics. The most common place to start is with learning the notes
on the fret board. Simple single note melodies like 'Row Row Row
Your Boat' contribute to what is called muscle memory. Start simple,
slow, and easy, and success will find you as you learn to play guitar.
The musical staff can seem confusing, with its five horizontal
lines and sometimes seemingly random black dots everywhere. Learning
music is like learning another language. Notes are placed on the
lines or on the spaces between the lines and let you know how high
or how low the note is. Start simply, and only learn three or four
notes at a time.
After you have a working knowledge of the notes, it is time to
put them together to create chords. A chord is a group of notes
played at the same time. It may be easier to learn to play guitar
chords by the shape they make on the fret board. Again, go slowly
and be patient.
Strumming in rhythm is essential to anyone who wants to learn the
guitar. Understanding rhythm is not as hard as it may seem at first.
Once you have mastered a few simple strum patterns, you will be
able to play just about anything you want (at least in some capacity).
These are the basics of what you need to know in order to learn
to play the guitar. Other techniques include scale passages; sweep
picking, and finger style. All of these will take patience and hard
work - there is no substitute for hard, focused practice. Be prepared
to set aside about a half an hour every day to practice. Practice
must be every day to be effective. New concepts are forgotten easily
if you take a day off of playing.
Notes, chords, and rhythm: these are the foundations of which success
is laid. When you learn guitar, you will find satisfaction beyond
compare. The right guitar, the right book, and the right teacher
all combine with hard work and perseverance to make a guitar player
great.
